User Authentication?

Earlier I tried creating an app bucket and creating objects in the bucket. Each time I tried to save the object I got a user Authentication error. I then created a default user for the app. Now anytime I need to save objects I first login as the default user. My questions is ... do I have to create and login as a user in order to create app level buckets? I'm doing this in Javascript and later will be converting to REST (for use in Lua).

    Please ignore my last comment. I read the documentation: Anonymous users (i.e. users who have not yet signed-in) can only query and read data in the bucket by default.
